Zooming In:
Our trip to Arizona
We were 2 of nearly 15,000 photographers who gathered from all over the world in Phoenix, Arizona this last month for the Imaging USA Photography Convention. We had conferences in Phoenix’s brand new convention center where some of the rooms where more big than some of our smaller schools combined! What was funny about this trip was a good friend of ours was also at the Convention Center the same time we were with nearly 14,000 other meteorologists at a Meteorologist Convention. Downtown Phoenix was busy!
We were graced with many I’d say celebrity photographers including Anne Geddes. She held a meet and greet and book signing. Anne is a very creative and soft-spoken woman. We were also fortunate to meet some other wonderfully talented photographers of whom we quickly became friends with. Lindsay and Erin who own Cherry Creek Photo in North Dakota and Trista who owns Look Who Just Blouin in?.
We attended an awards ceremony for all the Portrait Studios representing the Family Portrait Fundraiser. Over $60,000 was raised for Operation Smile. This donation will help over 200 children with facial deformities around the world.
Although our trip was mostly a lot of class time we did fit in a little time for sight seeing. I was able to wander the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens one afternoon, and we also were able to take some landscape portraits during a beautiful Arizona sunset at Papago Park east of Phoenix.
There was also an Expo open to us where hundreds and hundreds of Photography related companies came to display their products. It was a photography candy store!
Overall it was an amazing trip it not only stirred-up our creative juices but brought back many new ideas from some of our Nation’s top Portrait Studios. We do look forward to sharing these with you.
Happy Valentines Day!
In the Spotlight:
Here is a sneak peek into a special event for us; Our new studio floors! Special thanks to Lou at Warehouse Direct Interiors Inc. in Santa Cruz for his great work and helping us make this happen.
Last week Lexi had a great time dancing and being herself while we took her 7th birthday portraits.
Blues Photo Tip:
Get in close!
Really close! Try ‘macro” photography. To make use of this digital photography tip have a look on your camera for a ‘macro’ mode. Switch it on, and then get really close to your subject- most point and shoot cameras will focus from about 10cm in macro mode.

Children’s Value Days!
The first quarter of the year usually brings weather that is not as pleasant as spring, summer, and fall. So, we’d like to offer you some incentive to bundle up the kids and visit our studio for a fun portrait experience. Our studio props and setups are really cute and designed for children under the age of 12. We’ve set aside two days each of the First Quarter months as Children’s Value Days with session fees at 50% off. Call the studio today for more details.
